Non-GMO Month - October at all Choices locations
Everybody needs to eat, but we don’t always have the option of knowing what we eat. At Choices, we believe as consumers we should all have the right to know whether or not the foods we eat are genetically engineered. This October, Choices Markets is creating awareness of GMO foods throughout our stores and newsletter. Some of the highlights include:
Large store displays with Non-GMO Project Verified products on sale
Free copies of our new GMO to Organics nutrition brochure
A 2 Minute Cooking Show by the Nutrition Team featuring Pumpkin Spiced Nuts with Chosen Foods oil
Specific GMO-free Nutrition Tours (free of charge, as always)
Screenings of the movie GMO OMG in South Surrey, Kelowna and Kitsilano (West 16th)
October Newsletter feature article on GMOs and highlighted deals on Non-GMO Project Verified items throughout. Please note this will be posted online and available in-store on October 1st.
Choices Markets firmly believes in GMO labeling and the education of our customers and transparency of our products. This is why we partnered with the Non-GMO Project and are putting tags in front of any verified product to make them easier for our customers to find. Please know that GM foods are a concern to us and we want to address our customer’s requests for better products.
We can never maintain that we will not sell anything genetically modified as anything made with conventional corn, canola, soy and any of their derivatives are highly likely to be GMO. This means most processed foods.
The best way to ensure foods are non-GMO is to shop for organic products and pay close attention to labelling of conventional items.
We strongly support government lobbying for mandatory GMO labeling and encourage all individuals to contact their local government officials.
GMO OMG: Film Screening and Discussion - Multiple Locations
Celebrate non-GMO month by joining Choices Markets for a screening of the provaocative film GMO OMG and a frank discussion about genetically enginereed foods led by the Choices' Nutrition Team. Please see our event listings below for location details.
GMO OMG director and concerned father Jeremy Seifert is in search of answers. How do GMOs affect our children, the health of our planet, and our freedom of choice? And perhaps the ultimate question, which Seifert tests himself: is it even possible to reject the food system currently in place, or have we lost something we can’t gain back? These and other questions take Seifert on a journey from his family’s table to Haiti, Paris, Norway, and the lobby of agra-giant Monsanto, from which he is unceremoniously ejected. Along the way we gain insight into a question that is of growing concern to citizens the world over: what's on your plate?
