Meat Operations Manager, F/T

Choices Markets currently has an opening for a Meat Operations Manager at our head office in Delta. We are a locally owned grocer that’s been providing natural, organic and specialty products for communities across BC since 1990. We have eleven stores across Metro Vancouver and the Okanagan. Our customers enjoy an extensive selection of organic, natural and local food items. Qualifications:

  • Thorough understanding and knowledge of the Canadian meat industry
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with meat cutting in a retail environment or meat processing facility, including at least 5 years in a supervisory role
  • Knowledge and understanding of retail programs, strategies and initiatives, including pricing, gross profit, inventory management, food safety, equipment utilization and maintenance, seasonality and promotions
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Experience with meat products procurement and planning
  • Experience working in or with food distribution companies/brokers
  • Experience with developing, presenting and managing analytical calculations, business projections and ROIs
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret legislation related to food business (CFIA and AAFC regulations)

Responsibilities:

  • Overall operations, category, and procurement management of Choices’ meat and seafood programs
  • Supporting Choices’ agenda of sustainable business and healthy products promotion
  • Dealing with and supporting Choices’ new programs and initiatives, including new product and sub-category development
  • Regular support of daily retail operations, including meat cutting (when required), equipment checks, food safety, inventory management and customer service
  • Meat/Seafood procurement and booking through selected/authorized distributors, brokers and private farmers, including price/delivery schedule/product negotiation, complaints and recalls
  • Regular inspections of meat processing facilities and farms
  • Strategic ad planning, considering Choices’ promotion and marketing plans and taking into account seasonality, market trends, cost of products and market competition
  • Maintenance of the internal meat category pricing book, with a focus on margin and profitability
  • Coaching and leading the team of Meat Managers
  • Cooperation with Choices’ Marketing team on supporting their initiatives and strategic plans
