Nutrition Tours at Choices Markets

Are you hungry for knowledge about food and how it can impact your health? New nutrition headlines spring up daily with information about what to eat and what not to. With all the information out there, it can get pretty confusing. We can help you wade through to the facts and teach you how to choose foods that are right for you and your unique needs. We also provide recipes and other cooking tips to ensure that you know what to do with the food once you take it home to ensure it’s delicious!

We offer FREE one-on-one, 60 minute or 90 minute group tours on a variety of subjects depending on your interests and concerns.

We also offer Kids Tours! We love to host school classes, preschools, after school programs, families and caregivers. From age 4 and up, we provide a fun and interactive experience tailored to the age and size of the group. Timing ranges from 30-60 minutes.

Nutrition Operations Manager – Hanna Rakowska RDH, RHN, CHCP

Hanna holds the position of Nutrition Operations Manager at Choices Markets. She has worked as a nutrition facilitator at various medical clinics, such as CHANGEpain and Care Medical Group, while maintaining her private practice, Back to Balance Nutrition. She has been featured on television shows such as CTV Morning Live and Global News.

After working more than ten years in the dental field and overcoming cancer in her early 20’s, Hanna became interested in nutrition, which taught her about the importance of a healthy diet in achieving optimal health. In private practice, she specializes in using nutritional therapy for chronic disease prevention and management with a focus on cancer and chronic pain. Hanna’s mission is to raise awareness about the role of dietary and lifestyle behaviours in chronic disease development through evidence-based nutrition education. To accomplish this, Hanna has developed workshops for chronic pain, cancer, and cardiovascular disease. In her role as Nutrition Operations Manager at Choices Markets, Hanna oversees various aspects of the nutrition department, including managing the nutrition team, coordinating and contributing to wellness seminars and monthly newsletters, and providing nutrition information to the community.

Hanna holds the designations of Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Certified Holistic Cancer Practitioner, and Registered Dental Hygienist. She is currently completing her degree in Health Science through Thompson Rivers University.

D’Arcy Furness BA, RHN

Is a graduate of the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and specializes in helping people navigate low carb and ketogenic dietary patterns, as well as fasting regimes. She loves to cook and inspire others to make the most of nature’s bounty to nourish themselves. She’s passionate about educating and inspiring people to shift their eating paradigm and to simplify their relationship with food. D’Arcy avidly follows research in the “longevity meets health span” field and is keen to share her knowledge with others. When not at work, you’ll find her hiking, biking, writing poetry, meditating, traveling and sharing this beautiful world with family and friends.

Dionne Legge, CNP

Holds the designation of Certified Nutritional Practitioner, having obtained her diploma in applied holistic nutrition, from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. She is also certified in Herbal Pharmacology & Plant Based Medicine Making as well as Therapeutic Nutrition & Supplementation in Practice. Coming from the clean energy sector, Dionne developed a strong passion for sustainability and now advocates for having ethical eco options when it comes to food. She loves teaching people how to harness the power of whole foods for optimal health and vitality. When she is not at work you can find her at the community garden or running the trails.

Elaine Zhang RD

Is a Registered Dietitian and thrives on helping people eat healthier and creating positive and sustainable communities. Elaine graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Dietetics and minoring in Commerce. Elaine believes that healthy eating is essential to nourish the body. She empowers her clients to reach their own goals and make positive changes in their lives. Elaine is fluent in English and Mandarin and familiar with cuisines from diverse cultural backgrounds. Elaine is thrilled to be part of Choices’ nutrition team and is enthusiastic about helping people achieving overall well-being.

Sara Abtahi BSc, CNP

Is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Diploma in Applied Holistic Nutrition from the Institute of Holistic Nutrition. She has over 19 years of experience in the nutrition field and has worked in hospitals, homecare facilities, as well as in the clinical setting. Sara believes that everyone is unique and that true health can be obtained through an optimal state of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Sara specializes in women’s health and chronic diseases. She is bilingual in English and Farsi.

Sharan Malhi BSc, RHN

Is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist graduating from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition and has earned a Bachelor’s degree from Simon Fraser University focusing on Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Kinesiology, and Public Health. She combines her strengths in scientific research and exercise physiology to bring a whole body approach.

Wendy Wells BSc, MSc, RHN

Wendy holds a degree in Nutrition and Dietetics and a Masters in Public Health Nutrition. After working as a clinical dietitian for several years in the UK, Wendy moved to beautiful BC with her family to study Holistic Nutrition in Vancouver. She believes that good nutrition is the foundation of our health, and finds that small changes can have great positive health consequences. Wendy has a special interest in the role of food on our mental and emotional health, as well as food allergies and sensitivities.

Shelby Lewis BA, CNP

Shelby is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner and 200hr RYT Certified Yoga Instructor. She specializes in women’s health, pediatrics and plant-based diets. She feels that while life can be complicated, what you put in your body doesn’t have to be. Through education-based conversations, she will help you navigate conflicting information in the wellness space so that instead of feeling overwhelmed, you can get excited about the connection between food and your health. When she’s not in the kitchen or on her yoga mat, you can find her at her community garden, cycling or tucked into a coffee shop with her family in East Van.

Kate Young RHN

Kate Young is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist with a diploma from Canadian School of Natural Nutrition as well as with a course completion in Foundational Nutrition at Alive Academy. Kate’s love for helping people to realize how to be their best selves has also led her to the bio-energetic modalities of Touch for Health, GEMS and SIPS. Kate believes we all, each and every one of us, have the power to take control of our own health, rise above dis-ease and maintain balance. She firmly maintains that investing yourself and your energies in a whole food based diet and holistic lifestyle can do amazing things in support of your journey to wellness! Kate is continually in awe of how amazing the body is and therefore is continuously researching and learning in all areas of wellness and nutrition. As she has 2 small children, Kate has a big focus right now on mama and babe nutrition, but she also has keen interest in digestion, the nervous system and adrenal health.
Kate also has a great passion for helping families move to toxin free homes and loves to educate on more health supportive options for household cleaners and personal body care products.

When Kate isn’t practicing or working she can be found surrounding herself with loved ones (including cuddling her kiddos and kitties), furthering her learning in all things whole, getting her yoga on, reading, walking in the sunshine, making kombucha, baking or playing around in the kitchen.
