Mummy Apple Hand Pies

Mummy Apple Hand Pies

A fun and festive Halloween treat! These adorable mummy hand pies are filled with warm cinnamon apples and wrapped in golden, flaky pastry for a deliciously spooky dessert.

Directions

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 18–22 minutes Servings: 8 hand pies

Ingredients
● 1 package refrigerated puff pastry (about 450 g)
● 2 medium apples, finely diced
● 1 tsp cinnamon
● 1 tbsp maple syrup
● 1 tsp lemon juice
● 1 tsp cornstarch
● 1 egg, beaten (for brushing)
● 16 mini chocolate chips or dried blueberries (for eyes)

Instructions
1. Prepare the filling: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a bowl, combine diced apples, cinnamon, maple syrup, lemon juice, and cornstarch.
2. Cut the pastry: Roll out the puff pastry and cut into 8 rectangles for the bases. Cut the remaining pastry into thin strips for the mummy bandages.
3. Fill the hand pies: Spoon the apple mixture onto each pastry rectangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
4. Wrap your mummies: Arrange pastry strips across the filling in a crisscross pattern, leaving a small gap for the eyes. Press the strips firmly onto the edges of the pastry bases.
5. Bake: Brush with beaten egg and bake for 18–22 minutes, until golden brown and the apples are tender.
6. Add spooky eyes: Allow to cool slightly, then add two mini chocolate chips or dried blueberries to each mummy.

Nutrition Tip
Apples provide dietary fibre, including pectin, a soluble fibre that supports digestive health. Keeping the apple skins on adds extra fibre and antioxidants, while cinnamon brings natural warmth and flavour without needing much added sugar.

Make it plant-based: Choose plant-based puff pastry and brush with plant-based milk instead of egg.
